This sketch appeared in Delke's
"History of the Chowan Baptist Association." ELDER LEMUEL SANDERLIN,
BORN IN CAMDEN COUNTY 1794--DIED 1855, AGE 61. He professed religion in
Tennessee and united with the Methodists. In 1824, having returned to his native
county, he was baptized into the fellowship of Sawyer's Creek church and
ordained in the Association 1845. The insidious errors of Campbellism were then
making rapid advances.. Against these he was a firm oposer. He was pastor, at
different times, of Elizabeth City, Shiloh, Providence, Shady Grove, North-west
(VA) and Black Water (VA) churches.
Note: I Sally think the editor erred in the date Lemuel returned to
Camden by about 15 years. perhaps the date he was baptized at Sawyer's Creek
should be 1844.

I'm trying to find the parents of Wilson S.
Sanderlin, born 1822 and
Lemuel C. Sanderlin, born 1828. They were both born in Tennessee,
possibly Madison County. Possible sisters were Elizabeth Sanderlin and
Mary Sanderlin Hines.
Wilson S. Sanderlin married Louisa C. Cromer in 1842 in Hardeman Co.,
TN.
Children were Palmyra Sanderlin Thomas, Isaac W. Sanderlin, Adeline
Elizabeth Sanderlin Corley, Samuel B. Sanderlin, and Julia A.
Sanderlin
Stack Corley. Wilson & Louisa went to Texas, where he died before
1861.
Louisa went to Arkansas with her younger children.
Lemuel C. Sanderlin married Mary Moody in 1850 in Madison Co., TN.
Children: James Wilson Sanderlin, Martha Alice Sanderlin, Nancy, Joe,
Frank, and Katherine Sanderlin Willeford Bridges. The family went to
Nacogdoches County, Texas, c 1858 and then to Monroe County, Arkansas
c.
1864, and then to Lonoke County, Arkansas in the 1870s.
Any tips on finding the ancestry of Wilson & Lemuel Sanderlin?
Thanks!
Jim Sanderlin
Hillsdale, Illinois another e-mail from
Jim 17 Feb 09 Hi Sally,
I contacted you several years ago about my ancestor Lemuel Sanderlin,
who was born in 1828 in TN and married Mary Moody in 1850 in Madison
County, TN. You posted me email on your Sally's Family Place website
as a possible son of Wilson Sanderlin.
Below is everything I've found about another Lemuel Sanderlin, born
1794 died 1855. What do you think of all this? It looks like he could
be the father of my Lemuel Sanderlin and his brother Wilson S.
Sanderlin.
If you have time, could you let me know what you think?
Thanks,
Jim Sanderlin

In her last illness she
suffered extremely, but while her frail body enabled her soul to
converse with those around her, she bore testimony of God's power to
save. She left a husband and eight children to lament her departure
but their loss is her gain. Go, gentle spirit, rest from thy labors
and cease from thy sorrows and repose on the bosom of thy Saviour.
