Sally's great-great great-great Grandparents:

Humphrey Hudgins 1757 - 1822/3  | his parents
& 1776 Louisa Foster 1756 - 1820/22
  |  her parents
of Gloucester Co VA
& ca 1783 Gates County, North Carolina

This is my working hypothesis - the way I see it as of this moment!!

Humphrey Hudgins and Louisa Foster were married 9 Feb 1776 in Kingston Parish, Gloucester County, Virginia.

Humphrey Hudgins came to Gates County, NC around 1784 or 1783 from Gloucester County, VA. Humphrey‘s birth is recorded in Kingston Parish records as August 7, 1757 son of Humphrey Deggs Hudgins 1735 - 1796 and wife Joanna. He died between 23 Dec, 1822 & Feb Ct 1823.
Louisa Foster was born Nov. 2, 1756 daughter of John Foster Jr 1728-1784 & Rosanna who had married in 1749.  Louisa died sometime after the census was taken in 1820 and before Humphrey wrote his will on the 23 Dec 1822.
In Wheeler's Sketches of North Carolina we find that Humphrey Hudgins in 1795 served in the House of Commons and again in 1797serving continuously through 1812; again in 1815, 1816 & 1817; in 1819 he was the Senator from Gates Co.
I am placing Humphrey D Hudgins as a son "by preponderance of evidence" that indicates that is who he is.

Children of Humphrey Hudgins Jr and Louisa Foster: Gates Co, NC
the birth of Humphrey Hudgins, Jr and his marriage to Louisa Foster and the birth of their child Rose are recorded in the Kingston Parish Register.

 Their children included:
     a. Ann Hudgins ca 1845).
     b. Emma Hudgins ca 1852).
3. Humphrey Hudgins 17 Dec 1820 - 12 March 1898 Chappell Hill, Washington County, TX.
(b. abt 1825 according to 1850 census, but this would make him a twin (though not impossible) and leave a gap in the otherwise consistent interval between births. This estimated birth year is likely incorrect.) I believe this to be "Chappell Hill" Humphrey Hudgins, the nephew of Joel Hudgins. "Chappell Hill" Humphrey Hudgins' birthdate is cited in HUDGINS: Virginia to Texas by Edgar H. Hudgins, page 178, as 17 Dec 1820 -- a date which would fit nicely here. Other evidence supports this being "Chappell Hill" Humprey Hudgins -- more later. Humphrey Hudgins was twice married, but had no children -
4. Rosinna/Rosanna Hudgins ca 1822 - possibly died before 1860
married Chowan County NC 24 October 1842 Baker Small
 Their children include:
     a. Thomas Small ca 1846 - ?
     b. Josiah Small ca 1849  Perquimans County NC  - ?
     c. Benjamin Small ca 1855
according to 1850 census in Edenton, Chowan County, NC. This is most likely the "nephew" of "Chappell Hill" Humphrey Hudgins according to the 1880 census of Washington County TX; and the "Ben Small" mentioned in HUDGINS: Virginia to Texas by Edgar H. Hudgins, page
     d. Joseph A. Small Apr 1853/1863 NC -18 Feb 1922 Austin, Travis County, TX

5. Sarah Hudgins ca1828 - bef 1882
     married
25 May 1868 John W. Nowell (widower of Esther Hudgins)
    No known children.
6. Esther Hudgins ca 1828 - bef May 1868
     married
