Robert Hudgins, shipbuilder and trader of Liverpool, England, father and sponsor of William, John, Lewis, Robert.  The brothers left England in 1743 with their families to settle of Piankatank River, Gloucester Co, VA. They engaged in Plantation operation, shipbuilding and shipping and eventually acquired most of the shore of the Piankatank River from Geynn Island to Hampton, Gloucester County, Virginia. Some of the family evacuated with the loyalists after 1776 and went to Canada probably Nova Scotia.  Janet Hudgins

Children of William Hudgins and Mary Ann Houlder:
    After the death of his young wife, William Hudgins, left England and went to Gloucester County VA with his two brothers John and Lewis in 1754, leaving his three sons with their grandparents in England.  In 1865 these three young men came to Gloucester County to join their father, step-mother, and two half brothers Anthony and Hugh.  from Janet Johnson

        William went to Canada after the War as he fought as a loyalist for the Queens Rangers. His brother John was killed at Yorktown also fighting as a loyalist. There is a book "200 Years of Hudgins" that lists William and his family and their settling in Canada. from Carolyn M
