e-mail from David Perry of Atlanta --
Sally,
I am researching my Perry family and regularly come across your page and
thought perhaps you could help me break through a wall. My 4th great
grandfather was William Jackson Perry, B. 1791, d. 1870 in Anson County
NC(wife Breedy Robertson). I understand that he had a brother named Hardy
and his mother was possibly named Elizabeth. I cannot find his parents
however, In an article published in the 1920's on a distant cousin, Dr.
William Perry of Chesterfield Co. SC, it was reported that William Jackson
Perry was Dr. Williams 2nd great grandfather and Jeremiah Perry (of Cascine
Plantation) was his 3rd Great Grandfather. In fact, another distant cousin,
Walter Perry of Wingate, Union Co. NC, has possession a sward and scabbard
that family tradition says was taken from the body of Jeremiah Perry when he
was thrown from his horse and killed while serving as a courier for White
Horse Harry Lee during the Revolution. Two major problems with that: first,
Jeremiah died in 1777, 14 years before William Jackson was born and 2nd,
there are no records of Jeremiah having a son named William Jackson. I
considered the possibility that William Jackson was a grandson of Jeremiah,
but have been unable to establish that either.
Notice for male NC Perry surname descendants: Please consider
having your DNA tested.
Three samples from family subgroup 03 at Perry FTDNA website
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/perry/default.aspx?section=yresults can
document their ancestry to John Perry b. 1680/90 of Nansemond Co, VA d.
1760 Bertie Co, NC. A fourth sample from the same subgroup
03 can prove his ancestry to Currituck Co, NC. He does not
appear to be a descendant of John Perry d. 1760 in Bertie. It is
anticipated that the presently unknown common ancestor of these two
lines lived in 17C Virginia. DNA may help tie together the several
NC lines out of VA, so please consider joining the Perry surname
project. Tests can be ordered at a discount through either the Perry
FTDNA website above, or www.perry-dna.org.
Other companies (Ancestry, etc) also do DNA testing, and your result can
be uploaded to the Perry surname project.
