I see it as of this moment!!
1746, 27 May -- James Jordan Scott of Isle of Wight Co VA to
William Murfrey of the Upper Parish of Nansemond Co VA -- 11 pounds current
money of Virginia 150 acres more or less in the mouth of Puddleduck, a small run
on the south side of the Meherrin River, joining the Craggy Bottom and the river
part of a patent granted Henry Wheeler 5 Nov 1714. and conveyed by Henry Wheeler
to Richard Washington and by the sd Washington to Robert Scott, 100 acres of the
land 18 Feb 1725; and the other fifty acres the sd Richard Washington sold unto
Lawrence Hobby and the sd Lawrence Hobby sold unto Robert Scott 10 Feb 1723 and
by the death of Robert Scott the sd land came to his son James Jordan Scott.

"Murfree, settling on the Northampton Co site, built a
wharf and a narrow road up the hill to attract shipping--known as Murfree's
Landing.
ca 1750 Murfree married Mary Moore of Northampton Co. . they built a home
atop the cliff at Cragg Bottom. [John Evans, an elderly Murfreesboro
native, gave this description of the home to F Roy Johnson on 16 Dec 1968] It
was a one-story "jump frame" structure facing south, without porches
or paint. It had a west chimney and a rear shed-room. Son Hardy, the first of
seven children was born there 5 June 1752,
Murfree soon established a ferry known as Murfree's Ferry
22 Nov 1757 -- John Boude of PA to William Murfree of
Northampton Co 20 pounds Sterling money 230 acres on the south side of Maherrin
River, joining Reedy Gut, land formerly owned by Thomas Kerby, John Bass, Arthur
Williams, the head of Spring branch and the river, part of a patent to
Henry Wheeler 5 Nov 1714. Wit: William Fanning, John Shepard, Thomas
Parker. Reg. Northampton Co Nov Ct 1757 J. Edwards C. Ct
1758 - Murfree's Ferry was designated a king's landing.
[these sites had public warehouses where produce was weighed, measured and
inspected by a licensed official to insure that kegs, bales, and barrels held
the correct quantites and quality.]
1758 & 1759 represented Northampton Co in the colonial
assembly
1758 William Murfree named vestryman for Northwest Parish along with James
Washington, James Turner, Samuel Thomas, Joseph Sykes, Charles Skinner, William
Battle, Joseph Smith, Benj. DeBerry, Robert Warren, James Maney and John
Figures.
1759 --Hertford Co was formed and his land fell into the new
County
1762 - 1763 William Murfree represented Hertford Co in the
colonial assembly
1766-1771 he was Hertford County's 2nd high sheriff and a
long time justice of the peace.

Hardy Murfree is shown have received 2 payments
1775 -1776 he was again in the colonial assembly
1787 - William Murfree donated 97 acres of land for a town at
Murfree's Landing. and the General Assembly of North Carolina on 6 Jan 1787
passed an act incorporating the town of Murfreesborough on said land. William
Murfree, Patrick Brown, Redmond Hackett, William Vaughan and John Parker were
appointed Commissioners and Trustees of the town.
