John M. Hickey VIRGINIA
BEACH - John Milton Hickey,
80, of the 3300 block of MacDonald Road, went to be with the Lord
March 15, 2005, surrounded by his family and friends. John was
born in Norfolk and grew up in Brambleton. He was the son of
the late Mary Caroline and Charles Edward Hickey and
was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Hickey and
Willie Reynolds and his sister, Laura Etheridge.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a
retired claims supervisor with Aetna Life Insurance Co. He was a deacon
emeritus and a faithful member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church, where
he served on many committees and in various ministries including the
Swinging Saints Choir and his Senior Citizens Group. Mr. Hickey was
a member of the Norfolk East Camp of Gideons International and the
Virginia Beach Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans and was a
lifetime athlete and coach.
Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Betty
Pierce Hickey; his daughters, Beth Leonard and
husband Frank and Cathy McMahan and husband Everette “Mac” McMahan.
His surviving grandchildren are Eric McMahan, Jason McMahan, Keith
Leonard and wife Tammy, Elizabeth Clemons and husband Billy and Matthew
Leonard; great-grandchildren, Austin Clemons and Luke Leonard; his
brother, Charles W. Hickey and wife Maxine of
Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Stella Reynolds and Dory Pierce;
and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in
Woodland Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Ken Barnes officiating. Burial
will follow in Riverside Memorial Park. . . .
His Christian testimony, constant display of
love and great sense of humor will be greatly missed. “Well done, thy
good and faithful servant.” |
